The Farm
School Farm has been farmed by the Sillett family for generations. It was, until recently, a mixed farm with cereals grown alongside traditional meadows but it is now all grass in response to very low cereal prices. We have a small Red Poll suckler herd having previously grown Aberdeen Angus cattle. Red Poll is the traditional East Anglian breed. The cows graze our Countryside Stewardship Scheme meadows close to our cottages. This year we have had 3 calves born in January and 4 lambs which we bottle reared in March. All 8 cows are in calf, due to calve in November and December.
We are developing a Pets' Corner so that children can enjoy getting to know the animals. You are welcome to help feed the rabbits and chickens and see if there is a freshly laid egg for your breakfast. You will also see ponies for which we provide stabling and grazing. As well as the secluded and private guests' garden with wooden climbing frame and barbeque areas, we have a recreation room with a full sized pool table for you to enjoy (free of charge) as well as Table Tennis, and fishing in our large pond close to the cottages. We offer cycle hire so that you can enjoy the Suffolk Countryside to the full. There are very good walks starting close to our cottages with circular routes of between 1 and 6 miles. Follow our nature trail or try a scavenger hunt. Our cottages are an ideal base for group activities. Examples to date include wood carving and watercolour painting - capturing the beautiful local scenery.
