Environmental Statement We aim wherever possible to minimise or eliminate any adverse impacts of our farming activities or holiday accommodation and to improve the natural environment when possible: - We have recently installed a Gilles 85 kw woodchip boiler to heat all 4 cottages, games room and our farmhouse, with the help of grant funding from DECC's Bio Energy Capital Grant Scheme. This is carbon lean (reducing CO2 emissions by 94%) as the carbon released when the woodchip is burnt has been taken up from the atmosphere by the growing trees which provided the woodchip. All woodchip is sourced from local woodlands, helping to generate local employment and to bring undermanaged woodland back into management.
- We recycle most materials including glass, tins, paper, plastics and food waste, and encourage Cottage Guests to do the same by providing recycling bins.
- Our Cottages are well insulated to maximise energy efficiency and minimise fuel usage.
- We have fitted low energy light bulbs where possible, reducing electricity consumption.
- We have a number of activities available on our farm enabling guests to enjoy 'car free' days. These activities include fishing, walking, cycling and a nature trail.
- Our highest mileage car runs on LPG 'Autogas' which the UK Government is encouraging due to the considerable reduction in harmful emissions.
- We have entered our farm into the England Rural Development Programme Countryside Stewardship Scheme, to achieve objectives relating to Landscape / History, Wildlife and Public Benefit. Key features are the management of our meadows through low-intensity grazing as part of the traditional landscape; restoration and sympathetic management of ancient hedgerows to provide improved shelter and nesting for song birds as well as a source of pollen, nectar and berries for insects, birds and small mammals from a less frequent and late winter hedgerow trimming regime.
