The Farm

School Farm has been farmed by the Sillett family for generations. It was, until recently, a mixed farm with cereals grown alongside traditional meadows but it is now all grass in response to very low cereal prices. We keep Red Poll cattle having previously grown Aberdeen Angus cattle. Red Poll is the traditional East Anglian breed. The cattle graze our traditional meadows which we manage sustainably - most of our grassland is a grass / clover ley which needs no nitrogen fertiliser as clover fixes it from the atmosphere. We also trim hedges just twice each five years to provide winter food (berries) for farmland birds. Most years we rear a few lambs which you are welcome to help to bottle feed.

Children can enjoy getting to know the animals. You are welcome to help feed the rabbits and chickens and see if there is a freshly laid egg for your breakfast. You will also see ponies for which we provide stabling and grazing.

As well as the secluded and private guests' garden with wooden climbing frame and barbeque areas, we have a games room with a full sized pool table for you to enjoy (free of charge) as well as table tennis, and fishing in our large pond close to the cottages. We have a football pitch and offer cycle hire so that you can enjoy the Suffolk Countryside to the full.

There are very good walks starting close to our cottages with circular routes of between 1 and 6 miles. We also have a farm trail which takes you across the meadows and fields, through a wood and back to the farm along the lane.
